The newest recording is done. We will be releasing a new record next week. Then, around the first of the year, we will release another one. This recording is called "Road Noise" and it will be available through all your favorite digital distribution outlets Tuesday- 27-September. It might take a couple of days longer to be up on i-tunes. Probably because of corporate turmoil at the top of Apple. Certainly not due to our sloppy and disorganized nature. Road Noise contains 6 songs, four brand new and 2 old. The next recording will be the same. We do this to keep prices down, due to the circuitous nature of digital distribution and add-on pricing for diy people such as us. Anyway, it's kick-ass. Buy it. There will be no release party. Just a sigh of relief. Add Comment We are rounding the final curve on the recording. I put up a rough mix of one of the songs that is mostly done. Tomorrow night we get to play with the awesome Adam Lee and the Dead Horse Sound Company. That's at Mojos, in Columbia Mo. Stay tuned... We are up and running. I won't say we're getting a lot done, but we will get done. As this finishes several things are going to change on the site. There will only be a couple of songs up and only to listen to, after that it will be buy, buy, buy. So, you'd better download what you can, while you can. We are still looking to fill in a couple of shows, one or two in Florida (if it's still there after this weekend) and one on the way to Shakori Hills, so let us know if you want us to play in your living room. I maintain that's where we sound the best anyway, in your living room. Just not in mine, because I don't want to clean up. Brock's slaving away on the artwork for the recording, as well as playing bass sometimes. Doc is making sure the proper people, animals, things and smells get barked at. I refuse to do much of anything, other than play and record and mix and master and cook lunch and do dishes, sometimes and... mostly sleep and watch tv. It ain't diggin' ditches son. It has begun, the chewing through large grainy pieces of bass tones. Yeah,Yeah, I know, it ain't diggin' ditches son. At least there's no drums to check, I guess. We will hopefully have a few songs done by the end of next week. We may even post one. We'll hopefully have 12 done by the end of August and a release date for i-tunes and such muck. Probably be Rocktober. After we make millions from that? I guess we buy a dog named Guillermo Bearthunder and a cat named Aunt Stabby and retire to an extremely fragrant back porch in the middle of nowhere. I don't know. The Doctor will hate all of that, as much as he hates recording. Stay tuned, if you want to. As I said previously, we aren't going to be doing a lot of shows, until around October 1. We are taking a little break for the hot months and most importantly, doing a high quality,full-length recording. The idea is to do about 5 brand spanking new songs and 5 to 7 of the things that stretch back to when I first started writing on the mandolin. So basically anything I've written up through the Oregano e.p.(the one we put out in January). Here's where the fun comes in... Let me know (by email, blog comment, text, voicemail, snail mail, carrier pigeon, however you would like), what would you like to hear? I know there has been some interest expressed in hearing different versions of some songs on the Our Fabulous Outfit record. Just let us know, we are genuinely interested. Don't forget, next Friday (July 8), we will be at Mojo's in Columbia, Mo. We are playing early(so get there early)and then we're going to watch the fine honky-tonk music of J.P. Harris and the Tough Choices and Adam Lee and the Dead Horse Sound Company. Well, probably not watch passively, more like shout, stomp, take a bunch of shots, you know, normal. We will be taking most of July and August off and only doing select dates in September (doesn't mean we can't take cool stuff). We will be touring most of the month of October and after that I'm sure we'll keep up the ten to twelve dates a month we've been doing. In that time off, we are recording 12 songs and will release it at the beginning of October. Tuesday, October 4, is the date we're looking at. The bookings are coming together and you can expect to see us all over the Southeast and Midwest this fall. I will put them up as they confirm. The output under the "download album" section of the site was all done by Brock and myself. In fact, everything from top to bottom on the site is our work. The recordings were mostly done in Brock's basement, on an 8 track recorder. This has all been a deliberate process on our part and in direct opposition to past ways of doing work. The next recordings will probably be back in a full blown studio, but we both thought it was important to start with something by us, for us and as raw as we usually sound and feel. Over the next few weeks, I will post brief thoughts and descriptions about each of the songs. Hopefully, this will satisfy anyone who likes to read liner notes and finds that sort of thing interesting. |
